SANTIAGO - Chilean forestry and finished wood products company Masisa announced plans to invest $55 million to build an MDF factory in southern Chile.

The plant, slated for the town of Cabrero, will employ 145 people and produce 280,000 cubic meters of MDF per year.

“The development of this new MDF plant is a real highlight for us right now,” said Masisa General Manger Roberto Salas. “It shows that we’re committed to our clients and to creating innovative products for the furniture industry.”

Masisa recently opened a larger panel manufacturing facility in Montenegro, Brazil. The factory, which cost $140 million to construct, began operations in June. The Montenegro plant is expected to produce 750,000 cubic meters of particleboard annually.
