Masco Ohio is lean champ
Wood Week: cabinetry and storms top the news
Masco Cabinetry, Ann Arbor, MI-based manufacturer of KraftMaid, Merillat, QualityCabinets cabinet lines and the DeNova countertops, has been named a Smart Business Cleveland 2011 "Evolution of Manufacturing” award winner.

Masco Cabinetry’s continuous improvement statistics as of 2010 include:
* The implementation of over 16,000 improvement ideas
* An average of 8.1 improvement ideas per associate
* The execution of over 520 Kaizen events to address concerns, production issues and other improvement opportunities
* Completion of over 30 Six Sigma projects to address complex, cross-functional and high impact improvement opportunities

“The Ohio manufacturing operations [Middlefield, Orwell, and Jackson in Ohio] have played a key role in the execution of our lean manufacturing strategy” in wood cabinetry manufacturing, says Bob Terhune, VP operations. “By challenging ourselves to reduce costs without sacrificing quality or our customers’ needs, we have successfully moved our manufacturing processes forward.”
