Leggett & Platt to Close SC Plant, Cut 110 Jobs

CARTHAGE, MO — Leggett & Platt Inc., a manufacturer of display cabinets and fixtures for retail stores, on Nov. 14 notified employees that it will start shutting down its North Charleston, SC, facility in mid-January, a move that will eliminate about 110 local jobs, according to The Post and Courier.

Leggett & Platt said it was planning to shutter four plants in its store-fixtures division as part of a $1.2 billion cost-cutting plan announced last November. The goal was to “prune about $100 million” of the least profitable revenue from the fixtures business, according to that announcement.

The company said it is working with its North Charleston workers to help them find new jobs. It also said the decision to close the local operation “is in no way related to the abilities or productivity of the employees at the plant.”
