TUALATIN, OR — La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries/Portland was awarded the Shingo Prize in the research category for its innovative training program. The award recognizes innovative practices in improving business processes, while the research category promotes research and writing regarding new knowledge and understanding of business processes.

The La-Z-Boy winning program integrates the concept of “Training Within Industry”  to develop best practices in the sales process and organization. The TWI concept was originally created and used by the United States government to train 1.6 million women to support the WWII effort, and has been adapted for the first time by La-Z-Boy/Portland for the retail arena
