JASPER, IN--Furniture manufacturer Kimball International, Inc. said net sales rose 11 percent to $314.5 million while net income fell 48 percent to $3.3 million for the third quarter.

Furniture sales increased 25 percent. The company's Kimball Office, National Furniture Kimball Hospitality units produce wood furnishings for hotels and offices.

“The furniture market has experienced steady growth over the last several quarters with certain segments of the market providing better opportunities for growth," said James C. Thyen, Kimball CEO, in announcing the results. "We took advantage of the market growth." Thyen said Kimball's electronics segment, which at $199 million represents 63 percent of  revenues for the period, may be affected in the aftermath of the tsunami in Japan.
