WIGGINS, MS -- International Paper, a manufacturer and distributor of forest products, has completed the sale of its Wiggins, MS, utility pole plant to Bay Minette, AL-based Baldwin Pole & Piling Co. Inc., a manufacturer of treated lumber, for an undisclosed amount, according to the company. The Wiggins facility, which was part of International Paper’s wood products business, has a team of 37 employees who will retain their positions at the plant.

The sale is part of International Paper's previously announced transformation plan to focus on its global uncoated papers and packaging businesses, as well as xpedx, its North American distribution business. The company continues to explore strategic options, including possible sales, for the remainder of its wood products business, which includes a plywood and lumber complex in Chapman, AL; and four lumber mills in Meldrim, GA, Johnston and Sampit, SC, and Franklin, VA.
