UPPER SADDLE, NJ — Seventy-four percent of all homeowners agreed that making renovations or home improvements now will help them get the most money when they decide to sell their home, according to a national survey conducted by Opinion Research Corp. for the Minwax Co. Kitchen updating led the projects mentioned with 63%, while 51% said new kitchen cabinets would add the most to resale value. Other projects ranking highly included bath remodeling (58%), replacing carpet (54%) and adding/refinishing hardwood floors (49%).

The survey also found that 67% of homeowners plan to initiate a home improvement project in the next 12 months. Interior and exterior painting, bathroom and kitchen remodeling, replacing carpets, adding new appliances, replacing kitchen cabinets, adding or refinishing hardwood floors, and updating plumbing or electrical work all were prominent on the homeowner to-do list.
