Home Depot to Debut New Stores Targeting Female Shoppers

ATLANTA – Home Depot is testing a new retail concept geared toward female shoppers, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Reportedly, Home Depot executives confirmed two new stores, called Home Depot Design Center, will open later this month in Concord, CA, and Charlotte, NC. The stores are roughly the same size as a regular Home Depot store, but look more like a showroom than the company’s usual format of a warehouse setting.

The Design Center stores do not have the lumber and building materials department or the heavy-duty power tools. Instead, Home Depot has dedicated a large corner in each store for an upscale furniture showroom by Home Decorators Collection, a catalog business that Home Depot acquired last year.

“Nothing about this store feels like the Home Depot you know today. It feels much more like a studio environment,” said Jason Felderman, senior director of merchandising. “Imagine a Home Depot designed by a woman.”
