ATLANTA - The Home Depot reported second quarter net earnings of $1.4 billion, up from $1.2 billion for the same period in 2010.

The lumber, cabinetry and home improvement retailer said sales for the second quarter totaled $20.2 billion, a 4.2 percent increase from 2010. CEO Frank Blake said despite the difficult economy, "Our second-quarter results were driven by a rebound in our seasonal business, storm-related repairs and strength in our core categories." Home Depot operates 2,245 stores.
