Furniture orders climb 9% in March
HIGH POINT, NC -- Smith Leonard, an accounting and consulting firm, said its monthly surveyed indicated that new residential furniture orders were 9% higher in March than in March 2009 and up 2% over February 2010.

Accordiing to Smith Leonard's May 2010 Furniture Insights, approximately 61% of the participants had increased orders over last year with several up nice double digits. The 61% was up from 58% last month. Year-to-date, new orders remained 9 percent ahead of the first quarter of 2009. 

Shipments in March were 5% higher than March 2009 and up 12% over February. This marked the fourth straight month that overall shipments have increased. Year-to-date shipments are 5% higher than the first quarter of 2009 when shipments were down 21%
