Fire destroys sawmill warehouses

MAPLE RIDGE, BC -- Two warehouses at Watkins Sawmill, a manufacturer of cedar shingles and siding products, were destroyed by fire on Friday, August 20.

The fire, which reportedly began at about 9 a.m., quickly spread and destroyed the two metal buildings used to store shakes and shingles and chemical wood preservatives.  Neither building had a sprinkler system, according to CBC.

Approximately 12 fire trucks and crews responded to the fight the blaze.

No injuries were reported.
