Fire-ravaged furniture plant still a messUNION CITY. PA -- A former Ethan Allen furniture factory destroyed by fire eight months ago remains a community eyesore.

Ethan Allen shut the 210,000-square-foot plant in 2003 and it remained vacant until May 2008 when it was purchased by Carl Boone for $260,000. Boone developed a portion of the building into an indoor flea market and had plans to create a pizzeria and skate park, according to the Erie Times-News.

The iconic former Ethan Allen factory was destroyed in a December 2, 2010 fire that investigators believe emanated from a worker's blow torch.

According to the newspaper, despite some efforts to clean the devastated site, "mangled metal, blackened wood and broken pieces of concrete are still strewed about."

Boone told the paper he is still considering turning the site into a skate park, but residents remain more concerned of having debris removed.
