Family sues over collapsing casket
PHOENIX – A family has filed lawsuits alleging that the casket their loved one was buried in fell apart at the gravesite.
 
According to a Boston Globe/Associate Press report, The family of the 50-year-old man claim that when a strap on a casket-lowering device snapped, the casket dropped and broke apart. The casket was reportedly constructed of stapled-together particleboard.

The family also alleges that the gravediggers fled after the mishap and that when family members attempted to lift the casket from the grave, its bottom fell out. Lawsuits have been filed against the City of Mesa and its cemetery workers, the funeral home and the casket company stemming from the May incident.
