The Eldred Wheeler furniture company is in the news, as its former owner has returned to take the reins in an attempt to resurrect and grow the company that specializes in the manufacture of 18th century-style furniture.

According to the Patriot Ledger, Dave McCarthy, who sold the company in 2003, recently bought it for a fraction of his sale price and purchased much of the equipment at bargain auction prices. He told the Patriot Ledger that he is determined to grow the business that once had sales of approximately $7.5 million and employed nearly 100 workers when he sold it.

McCarthy told the newspaper that he hopes to double production space to 15,000 square feet within the next year and is in the process to prove that furniture can be made in America profitably by emphasizing quality over quantity.

Since retaking over the firm, McCarthy reportedly has opened two showrooms in Pembroke and Wilton, CT. and is looking into opening other showrooms in markets such as Cape Cod, Boston’s western suburbs, Connecticut’s Farmington Valley and New York’s Westchester County.
