COURTLAND -- Dominion Power plans to convert its power plant here from coal to wood fired.

The power company recently received approval from Franklin-Southampton Economic Development Inc.

According to the Tidwwater News, Dominion Power representatives are touting the $45 million conversion from coal to wood as a move toward "green energy." Construction is expected to begin in late 2012 with the plant going live in mid to late 2013.

Dominion said the switch to wood fuel will create 100 jobs in the forestry and trucking industries. The power plant is expected to required 80 to 90 deliveries of wood products daily and up to 125 at times, the paper said.
