City Officials Lay Groundwork for Potential Ashley Expansion

WHITEHALL, WI -- The Whitehall City Council is creating a tax incremental financing district that could pave the way to a 60,000- to 70,000-square-foot expansion of Ashley Furniture Industries Inc.'s plant. According to the La Crosse Tribune, the potential expansion to an existing 74,000-square-foot plant would not add any jobs. City officials, however, hope the addition would lead to a much bigger expansion that would create hundreds of area jobs. Ron Wanek, chairman of Ashley Furniture, previously told the Tribune that his company is also considering the potential of putting a plant in North Carolina or South Carolina. Read more.
