Canyon Creek Earns Environmental Awards for Lean Program

MONROE, WA – Canyon Creek Cabinet Co. was recently presented with two awards in recognition of its 2006 lean and environmental implementation plan to help reduce energy consumption and the impact on the environment.

The Washington State Department of Energy presented Canyon Creek with its Award of Excellence in the following areas: hazardous waste and toxic reduction and the integration of environmental factors into a lean implementation plan. The pilot project involved Canyon Creek’s partnership with the state department of ecology and Washington Manufacturing Services to evaluate the benefits and synergies of waste reduction, pollution prevention and lean practices.

The Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center presented its “Gotcha! Caught in the P2 Act!” award for Canyon Creek’s notable pollution prevention achievement. The pollution prevention (P2) involves the reduction or elimination of waste at the source by the modification of production processes and the use of non- or less-toxic substances and resource conservation.

These two new awards represent the latest in a series of accolades showered on Canyon Creek for addressing environmental issues in its business practices since 1990. In 1999, Canyon Creek was awarded the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Pollution Prevention.
