Bright Wood Gives Layoff Notification to Redmond Workforce

REDMOND, OR — Bright Wood Corp., a manufacturer of mouldings and millwork, on Feb. 4 provided an official 60-day layoff notification, as required under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, to the entire work force at its Redmond, OR, manufacturing facility, according to KOHD.

The Redmond plant is one of two in central Oregon, and presently employs 101 people.  The actual number to be laid off has not been determined at this time. The other Oregon plant is in Madras, and employs 502 people.  At this time no WARN Act notification has been given to the people at the Madras facility.

Bright Wood officials report that orders have fallen by almost 50% in the last year, and they do not expect even a small rebound until late second quarter of 2009.  The primary reasons for reduced sales include continued competition from foreign markets, coupled with the housing crash experienced over the last 12 months.
