Boise Cascade Closes Veneer Mill

BOISE, ID – Boise Cascade ceased operations at its St. Helens, OR, veneer mill on Sept. 11.

Closure of the 37-year-old mill will impact 36 hourly production workers and management staff.

Robert Smith, human resources manager for Boise Cascade’s western Oregon region for wood products manufacturing, said, “The current market for wood products, and prolonged downturn in demand for products using veneer produced at this mill, have necessitated this closure announcement. “At this point in time, we consider this a permanent closure. Our plans are to retain the property and mothball the facility for the foreseeable future.”
