Biesse announces global expansion plansHANNOVER, GERMANY --

Biesse plans to invest 40 million Euros ($58 million) over the next three years to build new manufacturing facilities to be closer to its customers in key global markets.

Biesse Chairman Roberto Selci said the Biesse, one of the largest woodworking manufacturing concerns in the world based in Pesaro, Italy, will look to duplicate having production in other countries beyond its satellite plant in Bangalore, India. Markets Biesse plans to zero i on include China, Poland, Turkey and the Middle East. In the case of India, Biesse is on pace to manufacture 550 standard machines this year and hopes to make 700 there in 2012.

Giorgio Pitzurra, who joined Biesse as CEO in January, said Biesse introduced 22 new machines in 2010-11, inlcuding 16 for the woodworking industry and six for its Intermac glass and stone division.  The company also completed the purchase of Viet, a manufacturer of widebelt sanders, at the beginning of this year.

Pitzurra also touched on Biesse's involvement in developing its first lightweight panel line for Swedwood, the manufacturing arm of furniture retail giant IKEA. He added that a second line is scheduled to go into place for a furniture company in the United Kingdom soon.
