Berkline/BenchCraft to Close Mississippi Factory
MORRISTOWN, TN -- Berkline/BenchCraft announced plans to close its upholstery plant in Baldwyn, MI, by the end of August, according to the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal. The decision will put 400 people out of work.

Production at the 10-year-old plant will be absorbed by the company's plants in Mississippi and Tennessee. Dennis Carper, senior vice president of Berkline/Benchcraft, told the Daily Journal that the company is off-shoring more cut-and-sew kits from China. He also said rising fuel costs entered into the decision to close the Baldwyn plant because it is furthest away from the company's facility in Morristown, TN.
