Barcalounger plant in doubt, but not brand
MARTINSVILLE, VA – The president of Barcalounger told Furniture Today that options are being weighed to manufacture the company’s recliners, but stopped short of stating the fate of the Martinsville plant that suddenly closed on April 16.

The Martinsville plant had housed domestic production for Barcalounger, with additional product made overseas. Larry Smith, president of Barcalounger, told FT he expected a decision to be made within the next few days.

“There are several options on the table," Smith said. "But in any event, Barcalounger will continue to be a viable brand in the reclining furniture business.”

Barcalounger is a division of American of Martinsville. American of Martinsville is owned by Hancock Park Assoc., a Los Angeles-based investment firm.
