AWFS Fair Expands Fresh Wood Student Competition

CITY OF COMMERCE, CA – The AWFS Fair is expanding its Fresh Wood Student design competition and increasing the visibility of the finalists’ projects.

The student furniture will be on display in the main lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center between the central and north hall during the four-day woodworking fair, July 18-21. This year's competition will include a new production/contract category, designed for mass production, office or ready-to-assemble furniture, with an emphasis on design functionality and appeal, production capability and marketability. Also new are a reproduction category and an open category that puts no restriction on the style or materials used.

In addition to the new judging categories, a new award level has been introduced. A second place award joins the existing first place and honorable mention awards. Monetary awards are $1,000 for first, $500 for second and $250 for honorable mention.

The winners will be announced at an awards reception on Thursday, July 19. Richard Karn, who played Al on Home Improvement, will serve as emcee.

The AWFS Fair is celebrating its 50th anniversary. For more information, visit www.awfsfair.org.
