Architectural Groups Agree to Form Single Architectural Woodwork Standard

POTOMAC FALLS, VA – The Architectural Woodwork Institute announced that it has “signed a historic operating agreement” with two industry associations to develop a single architectural woodwork standard that will be developed by a joint standards committee.

The AWI will work with the Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Assn. of Canada and the Woodwork Institute as equal partners. The standards ultimately will blend into a new entity including components of AWI/AWMAC’s Quality Standards Illustrated and the Manual of Millwork produced by the WI.

“This agreement will help produce one architectural woodwork standard for the industry, eliminating confusion of multiple standards, which will benefit manufacturers, suppliers and the design community,” said AWI President Ed Brewer. “It will provide a single strong unified base which the certification entities can use to provide requested compliance oversight. This is a history-making event that demonstrates the possibility of combining the efforts of multiple associations to provide leadership for the industry.”
