Allegheny Announces Layoffs

PETERSBURG, WV — Executives for Allegheny Wood Products, a seller of hardwood to the furniture, millwork, cabinet, flooring and pallet industries, on Feb. 6 announced they are laying off about 140 employees, according to The Charleston Gazette.

According to a company press release, the layoffs are the result of the international economic downturn, which is creating less demand for Allegheny’s wood products. Allegheny has already reduced production at four sawmills in West Virginia and one in Pennsylvania, company officials said.
