CHARLOTTE, NC - Southern Yellow Pine lumber prices increased 12.5 percent in March, says Forest2Market’s weekly lumber market report.
March began $10/MBF higher than the previous month of February, at a price of $273/MBF. Sales order prices increased throughout the month, ending at $296/MBF.
Southern yellow pine is used extensively in construction, interior trim, outdoor decking, flooring, plywood and furniture. Early uses included shipbuilding, railroad construction and bridge construction. Pine’s by-products, such as turpentine, resin, pitch and tar, are almost as important and widely used as the wood itself.
