CHICAGO - Wood trophy manufacturer Smith Wood Industries, Inc. will be auctioned December 6 by Heath Industrial, selling CNC machines, dust collectors and laser engravers - mostly aged equiment geared to small-scale production.
Machinery and equipment for sale include Shoda CNC routers (Shoda introduced CNC routers for furniture makingin 1968), Mayer panel saw, and Voorwood & Fletcher foilers, as well as compressors and production line equipment.
Doing business as Smith Wood Specialties, the company was founded by Bernard "Red" Smith in 1956, selling plaques and awards through dealers.
Products featured simulated wood or marble finishes done in unique designs - a football plaque is shaped like a football and imprinted in color, a prototypes and small to large quantities were produced by the firm.
