Sauder Woodworking is among 18 companies, including 3M, protesting a surcharge levied by Ohio's First Energy Solutions. The companies told the Public Utility Commission of Ohio the so-called "Polar Vortex" charge was unfair, because they group have negotiated flat rates.
Columbus, OH-s Business First news channel reports FirstEnergy Solutions levied a surcharge on business customers with fixed-rate contracts for electric usage in January 2014, when the Polar Vortex required the company to buy extra higher-priced power from other sources. FirstEnergy Solutions says it is permitted by its contracts to pass such unexpected costs on to customers. T
