TORONTO - Norbord Inc. is preparing for a changing of the guard at its top management level with Barrie Shineton set to be replaced by Peter Wijnbergen as president and CEO effective Jan. 1, 2014.
Shineton, who has served in the dual position of president and CEO since 2004 for Norbord, an international manufacturer of particleboard, MDF, OSB and other wood-based panels, will retire by the end of January 2014. He has previously served as executive vice president of Wood Products for Norbord and managing director of Norbord UK during his more than 30-year career in the forest products industry.
Wijnbergen is currently COO for Norbord, a position he was appointed to in September 2010. During his 26-year career with Norbord, Wijnbergen has served as senior vice president, Eastern Operations, and senior vice president marketing, sales and logistics among other roles.
Norbord has assets of $1 billion and employs approximately 1,900 people at 13 plant locations in the United States, Canada and Europe.
Norbord recorded $27 million of earnings in the third quarter of 2013, the same as it had for the third quarter of 2012. The company noted that while it does not plan to restart its curtailed mills in Huguley, AL, or Val-d’Or, QC, next year, that its other mills are running at capacity.
