ARLINGTON, VA - Manufactured home shipments rose 42.1 percent in January 2012, says the Manufactured Housing Institute.

Manufactured Home Shipments Up 42 PercentA total 3,945 new homes shipped, up 42.1 percent from January 2011. The figure reflects homes built to HUD code - a standard established when the U.S. Congress passed the National Manufactured Housing Construction and Safety Standards Act of 1974.

MHI says increases of both single-section and multisection homes rose compared with the same month last year. Single section homes accounted for the largest portion of the increase: up 53.9 percent compared with January 2011 figures.

The seasonally adjusted annual rate of shipments, which adjusts for seasonal fluctuations and projects annual shipments, was 61,802 in January 2012, up 6 percent from December 2011. The Census Bureau reported 51,600 shipments of new manufactured homes in 2011.

Results are drawn from 45 home manufacturers operating 121 plants, reports the MHI.
