ATLANTA -- Georgia-Pacific Corp. has closed its plywood and stud mills in Monticello, GA, putting approximately 50 people out of work.

A G-P spokesperson told the Monticello News that it also was shutting its boiler at the plywood mill that also supplied steam to an adjacent MDF operation. The MDF plant will now use a boiler on its premises to fulfill its needs.
G-P's Monticello plywood plant has been the subject of curtailments due to the housing slowdown for the past few years.
