BRAMPTON, ON - The former Uniboard 'mega' MDF mill in Moncure, NC, now owned by Arauco, has earned exp, a global engineering firm headquartered in Brampton, an environmental award.

Former Uniboard MDF Mill Recognized for Eco ExcellenceExp was presented the Schreyer Award for its Photocatalytic Gas Treatment (PGT) project at the 2012 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards held on October 23 in Ottawa. Exp worked with representatives of Uniboard and its former parent Pfleiderer on an  oxidation process to destroy volatile organic compounds.

Pfleiderer completed the sale of the Moncure MDF plant to Arauco of Chile in January.

“The innovative technology created for this project is ground breaking,” said Marc Tremblay, executive vice president and general manager of exp’s Quebec region. “In addition to being compact, economic and clean, this technology only uses the energy required to destroy polluting compounds found in industrial gas emissions, and it does so without generating any additional greenhouse gases, asincinerators do.”
