LAKEWOOD, WA - Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have been called in to assist the investigation of an Aug. 9 fire that destroyed Grandwood Furniture's manufacturing plant.

The federal agency dispatched a crew of about 30 investigators to the scene from its Jacksonville, FL, office. The West Pierce Fire & Rescue department sought help because it is not well equipped to investigate a significant fire, according to the News Tribune.

The fire of unknown origin reportedly broke out at the 45,000-square-foot plant at about 6:10 a.m. Some 50 firefighters responded to the blaze that leveled the building.

Grandwood Furniture, which proudly touts that its products are "made in the USA," produces wood furniture for the bedroom, living room and other residential spaces.
