NAPLES, FL - Grand Woodworking partners Neil Heuer and Eddie Martin say launching their shop in 2011 during the downturn made it stronger.

Custom Woodshop Starts With 1,800 Knives

The timing has coincided with a South Florida real estate market decline of more than 60 percent since peaking in June 2005 according to MDA DataQuick, a San Diego real estate research firm.

Heuer says he viewed it as an opportunity.

"Grand Woodworking is a business model destined to thrive under a wide variety of economic circumstances," Heuer says. "Our team uses a strict series of best practices to generate superior results.''

With CNC routers and computerized moulder, the firm has another unique advantage: almost 1,800 profile knives for cutting materials, which allows for permutations of cuts and finishes running into the millions.

Heuer entered the custom woodworking business upon selling an Internet business that he ran from 1998 to 2008. Martin has over 30 years of experience in the woodworking business, having started when he was 16.
