The Mind of the Woodworker is a wide ranging thing, casting about for creative influences, finding heroes in brave intellects as well as design geniuses. This, among several initial finding of Woodworking Network's benchmark study, "The Mind of the Woodworker," already reveals some surprises. (It will be unveiled at Cabinets & Closets Expo April 9-11.)
The study found people employed in the secondary wood production industries profess to love their work, they are college educated, and most learned their professional on their own. Though gregarious and outgoing, woodworkers are also engaged in a solitary profession.
The range of interests is reflected in the most-viewed stories this week, from lumber shipments slowed by a Vancouver port strike to tips on how to clean saw blades (Simple Green!) and how to make a live-edge table.
