HENRY COUNTY, VA — Silas Samuel Crane of Bassett, VA, has been charged with arson and burglary in the Nov. 21 fire that caused an estimated $1 million in damage to a former J.D. Bassett  Furniture plant in Bassett, VA.

News sources report the 34-year-old Crane confessed last week to stealing copper from the building when the fire started. He has been booked into the Henry County Jail without bond.

The fire, which took approximately eight hours to contain, destroyed thousands of dollars worth of supplies owned by non-profit Resources Exchange Assn., which was using the building.
