ALEXANDRIA, VA - The Alexandria Seaport Foundation is seeking an Apprentice Program Assistant to assist in teaching proper and routine vessel maintenance and maritime skills in the boat construction and maintenance apprentice program. The Apprentice Program Assistant must be passionate about teaching, learning and working with at risk youth.

Qualified candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellent woodworking skills and comfort with shop equipment and hand tools.The ability to instruct apprentices on the use and maintenance of all shop tools and standard safe workspace practices is also essential.

Candidates must also demonstrate an interest in traditional wooden boat building and maritime history, while at the same time understanding the importance of contemporary construction methods and their place in boat building today.

Alexandria Seaport Foundation offers the full-time, salaried position with 2 weeks of paid vacation, 80 hours of personal leave and full benefits package. Salary range is $30-40,000 based on experience.
