Particleboard Shipments Rise in November; MDF FallsLEESBURG, VA - North American shipments of particleboard and MDF for November rose 1.4% to 401 MMSF (3/4” basis) compared to 396 MMSF the same month a year ago, according to data collected by the Composite Panel Association (CPA).  Year-to-date shipments are 6.1% ahead of 2012 at 5.037 MMSF compared to 4.746 MMSF.

Particleboard shipments increased 5.1% to 248 MMSF (3/4” basis) compared with 236 MMSF in November 2012, but decreased 14.3% from last month. Year-to-date particleboard shipments were ahead of 2012 by 8.4% at 3.068 MMSF.  November MDF shipments fell 4.1% to 153 MMSF (3/4” basis), compared to 159 MMSF the same month one year ago, and down 13.8% from last month. Year-to-date MDF shipments were up 2.8% compared to 2012 at 1.970 MMSF.

TFL Shipments Increase 6.8%
Shipments of thermally fused laminate (TFL) in November were 98 MMSF, up 6.8% compared to 92 MMSF in November 2012, but dropped nearly 15% from last month. Year-to-date shipments totaled 1.193 MMSF, up 4.4% over the same period last year. Shipments are extrapolated based on data from 69.6% of the U.S. industry and 76% of the Canadian industry.
