Uniboard Canada Sold to Kaycan in Cash Deal

LAVAL, QC - Uniboard Canada says now that corporate parent Pfleiderer has ironed out its restructuring, it is back at the helm of its Canadian engineered wood panel and laminate flooring operations, the latter produced in a state-of-the-art flooring facility in Laval, Quebec.

Uniboard Canada Resumes ControlParent Pfleiderer, which acquired Uniboard in 2005, has navigated a rocky road during the downturn. It sold the Uniboard mill in Moncure, North Carolina to Arauco last month.

Uniboard opened the Laval large scale laminated flooring division in 2000; the plant became fully integrated in 2004. With installed capacity of over 1.1 billion square feet of raw particleboard, high density and medium density fiberboard,  over 50% is converted into value added melamine and laminated flooring products

Uniboard Canada resumed control of the laminate flooring plant during the reorganization following the sale of the Moncure, NC, facility to Arauco.

"We are very excited to be back in action,'' Don Raymond, VP marketing at Uniboard said in a statement.  "Uniboard is the only Canadian manufacturer of laminate flooring. We are truly proud of our plant's capabilities and believe that a quality domestic product with unparalleled service will set us back on the map."

Uniboard Canada marked the resumption of control with the launch of a new collection laminate flooring with 40 SKUs. Susan Doherty, Uniboard product manager, stated, "This collection trends heavily to narrow, beveled planks and complex surface finishes that more than rival the best wood floor."

Uniboard products are sold to retailers, distributors and finished goods manufacturers, which cater to the kitchen cabinet industry, the furniture industry, the renovation and construction industries, and the floor covering industry. Uniboard says it is the largest supplier of thermofused melamine panels in North America. Pfleiderer AG is a top global producer of engineered wood. The company employs 5,100 people at 17 locations in North America and Europe, producing engineered wood, surface finished products and laminate flooring.
