TRACY, NB - Marwood Ltd., a manufacturer of pressure-treated lumber, wood pellets and other wood products, will construct a high-yield rough mill backed by financial investments from the Canadian and New Brunswick governments.
The new rough mill will feature new wood scanning and lumber trimming optimization systems, according to information released by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). The expansion is expected to create 20 jobs.
Financial support for the Marwood expansion includes a $500,000 repayable investment from the Canadian government through ACOA’s Business Development Program. In addition, the government of New Brunswick is providing a $1,200,000 repayable loan plus a $50,000 grant.
Marwood is a family-owned business started in the 1920s. Its brands include Suntrellis pressure-treated wood for decks, fences and playground equipment; the Backyard Organizer ready-to-assemble shed kits, Reigning Champion animal bedding and Comfy Cozy wood pellet fueling.
Marwood exports its products to the United States, United Kingdom and several western European countries.
Michael O'Donnell, president of Marwood, said, “The investment in our wood scanning optimization project by the federal and provincial governments will protect existing jobs while creating new ones through increased wood recoveries and productivity improvements, which will keep Marwood competitive in the export markets we serve. I want to thank both Governments for their continued support and confidence in Marwood.”
