Aged Cabinet Door Options

Elias Woodwork offers New Aged Door Options and explains the art of producing a product that appears old and antiqued. The aging process is done by hand, says the company, and follows Elias Woodwork’s proprietary process to ensure a systematic, consistent outcome. Four aging techniques for cabinet doors include: Rub Through, Antiquing, Distressing and Distressing/Antiquing. All of the company’s aging techniques are applied to solid wood, raised panel cabinet doors, using a door style that Elias Woodwork feels best represents the correct time period while complimenting the aging process. Products are protected after aging with a 10° (low sheen) clear top coat. With an order that includes parts and accessories such as moldings, corbels and valances Elias Woodwork applies the same aging technique to all of the parts to maintain a uniform appearance. The company will not by default do the aging process to veneers or plywood products as this process generally will break through the veneers and make that product un-usable. Cherry or Alder are the recommended wood species when manufacturing cabinet doors and accessories for the aging process, adds the company. Poplar can be substituted for Cherry or Alder when solid color paint is the chosen finish. Wood species such as Oak, Maple, Bamboo and Hickory are too dense and do not lend themselves to the aging process, according to the company.
