All Are Welcome at the CMA

The Cabinet Makers Association assists residential and commercial cabinetmakers and woodworkers to share hard-won knowledge and experience. The CMA members believe sharing knowledge will improve business for individual members, and advance the industry as a whole.

All Are Welcome at the CMAThe Cabinet Makers Association was founded in 1988 by a group of custom cabinet makers who thought that small- to mid-sized shops should network to help each other grow profitably. Since then CMA has expanded to include hundreds of small- and mediumsized cabinet shops, millworkers, furniture makers and their suppliers throughout the United States and Canada, and even a few members throughout the world.

While the public views cabinet and woodworking as a blue collar job, each of the CMA members is a professional craftsman. The CMA strives to give members the tools to compete on a professional level. Through shared experience, the CMA members educate ourselves and our clients — to help make us all more successful and profitable.

These efforts by the CMA help ensure there will be profitable work for all of us, now and into the future.

Cabinet Industry Benchmark Study:

All Are Welcome at the CMAIn 2012, the CMA issued its first industry benchmark study, profiling business structures, shop sizes, technology employed, and geographic range of business.

Survey participants were predominantly from smaller shops. Most (84%) founded their businesses; 56% of shops have 5,000 square feet or less; 57% reported $500,000 or less in revenue (28 percent were above $1 million, including 14% over $2.5 million). The CMA members operate in a fairly large radius of their primary facility: 42% handle projects 50 miles or more from their shops.
