Project: Sunset Bed
Materials: The Sunset Bed was made with ebony, sapele and curly maple veneer and MDF as the substrate and finished in a high-gloss lacquer.
Project Notes: The focal point of this piece is the beautifully crafted sunburst inlay woodwork, which is made with 78 small wedge shaped pieces to come exactly to a perfect point in the center to make the beautiful circular design. This bed took Parnian’s craftsmen eight months to build and was two years in the making by designer Abdolhay Parnian.

Project Notes: Solid steam bent Black American cherry arches with bridle joints at the intersecting parts let into angled dados in the frame. Birdseye maple bullets were turned on a machine lathe in order to keep the tolerances. Tall side rail panels were veneered using a Vac u Press and Durabond. The project was finished in hand-rubbed lacquer.

Project: Shaker Tansu Wing Thing
Project Notes: This cabinet was designed to provide storage in a small space outside a kitchen. The customers liked both Shaker and Japanese furniture design and wanted a piece that was a fresh fusion of both. The case is built of cherry, with poplar, MDF and birch plywood veneered with quartered cherry; the drawers are quartered red oak with birdseye maple fronts; the knobs and accents are padauk. The glass inserts in the doors are textured. An LED light illuminates the upper left corner for small statuary or objets d’art.

Project Notes: The desktop is made as a torsion box. Half-inch-thick birch plywood skins are glued over a corrugated cardboard core. The top is veneered in mappa burl and features perimeter- and edge-banding of solid wenge. The margin between the two species is accented with ebony stringing.
