Toronto's International Centre is the site for the WMS 2015 expo and conference, Nov. 4-7.

Attendees can save money on WMS expo floor admission by registering on-line today before the Early Bird Registration discounts end. Today, Early bird WMS Expo Floor admission is $15 and an early-bird WMS Conference Pass (which includes the November 5 conference sessions, plated lunch, VIP Expo Floor Tour and 3-Day Expo Floor admission) is $250.

Plans for WMS 2015,  Canada’s largest event for the wood industry – the Woodworking Machinery & Supply Conference and Expo – are in full swing.  WMS 2015  will be held November 5-7 at the International Centre in Mississauga, ON, just outside Toronto. Now a total 136 exhibitors representing more than 250 companies - numbers that continues to increase -  will be visited by thousands of professionals from North America and beyond during November’s biennial woodworking event.

WMS is Canada’s entry in the international global circuit that includes shows such as IWF in Atlanta and Xylexpo in Italy, drawing exhibitors and attendees from around the globe. The show has more than a four-decade legacy of connecting the Canadian woodworking industry to the world of woodworking machinery and supplies.
“Successful industry shows throughout the year at LIGNA in May — and July’s AWFS  — continue to demonstrate a recovering marketplace, and woodworkers are ready to do business,” says Laurel Didier, publisher of Woodworking Network which also produces WMS.
“We’re happy to report that WMS exhibitor commitments are very healthy, with participation from companies like Felder, Valspar, Blum, SCM Group, C.R. Onsrud and already more than 110 others. We’re looking forward to a very productive show.”

Expo organizers have named an industry education advisory panel to help enhance the education component of the wood industry conference being held November 5 at the International Centre. Additional sessions will be planned with the group’s guidance for the Nov. 5-7 to add another attraction to the show floor.   Panel members include:
  • Andreas (Andy) Gombäz, Branch Manager, Felder-Group Ontario
  • Sepp Gmeiner, Partner, Lignum Consulting Corp
  • Prof. Dennis Harlock, Program Coordinator / Wood Programs, Conestoga College
  • Wes Love, President, Taurus Craco Machinery Inc.
  • Iain Macdonald, Managing Director, University of British Columbia / Centre for Advanced Wood Processing
  • Kevin Tratt, General Manager, Blum
  • Dawn Wilson, Association Manager, Canadian Kitchen Cabinet Association
Woodworking Network is also working with partners from Lignum Consulting in developing a thematic initiative — ‘Industry 4.0’ — as the overall scheme for WMS 2015 . For the first time the conference sessions will be held at the International Centre. “We have reset the Conference at WMS to include the concept of Industry 4.0 as it applies to Canada’s wood manufacturing industry,” says Bill Esler, WMS program coordinator.

During LIGNA, Lignum Consulting president Georg Frey, based in North Carolina, and Sepp Gmeiner, partner, who heads the Toronto office, operated the first stop on LIGNA 2015’s Industry 4.0 Technology Tour in Hannover. Gmeiner and  Frey will help explain this framework for strategic planning and fully integrating operations in woodshops of any size.
Business track sessions will include a program on finding the best workers, including a newly released report on women moving into the woodworking workforce; building the business case for CNC manufacturing; and a presentation on how even small companies can h export, with resources highlighted. Operations will touch on finishing, CNC technology, dust collection, software and cutting edge technology. www.woodworkingexpo.ca
