Vintage Pedestal Table Crack

Hello! I have a 100 year old vintage claw foot pedestal table that I want to refinish. My only concern with this table is the crack in the pedestal itself. From my online research, a possible reason could be from the weight of the table top bearing down and eventually causing the split. The split is not at a "seam" of the hollow octagon shaped pedestal, but in the center of one of the sides. My thoughts are that I can glue up the seam and clamp it shut, but I want to hear from an expert on what they think I could do? I don't want to glue it and then it split in a few months. With my very basic knowledge, I do not know if there are brackets or pieces that can be placed inside the hollow pedestal that can cinch shut the crack. Please let me know what you think! Thank you.
