The IWF Connect virtual auction supporting the Woodwork Career Alliance of North America has been extended through 9 p.m. EST Saturday, Nov. 7.

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- In July, the Society of Wood Manufacturing (SWM), a Southern California industry-education focused group, recognized a challenge that many high school woodworking teachers would soon face as the new school year began: how to teach woodworking while students are distance learning due to the pandemic.

The Centre for Advance Wood Processing at the University of British Columbia will offer three Wood Manufacturing Council (WMC) On-line Management Skills Training courses beginning Sept. 14.

Red River College announced it will not offer courses in its Cabinetry and Woodworking Technology program this fall. Both the diploma and certificate programs were among a half-dozen programs suspended by the college in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Woodwork Careeer Alliance of North America gained valuable insights into how woodworking instructors transitioned from teaching students in the classroom to distance learning in a COVID-19 survey.

The transition from teaching students in the classroom to online was most especially fraught with challenges for woodworking instructors belonging to the Woodwork Career Alliance of North America (WCA).

Input from industry has helped launch students into successful careers.

WCA recently conducted a phone interview with Tim Fixmer to learn more about helping better the woodworking industry by offering learning opportunities and supporting the WCA credentialing program.
