EPA Establishes Clean Air Act Standards for Boilers

WASHINGTON – In response to federal court orders requiring the issuance of final standards, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is issuing final Clean Air Act standards for boilers and certain incinerators that achieve significant public health protections through reductions in toxic air emissions, including mercury and soot, but cut the cost of implementation by about 50 percent from an earlier proposal issued last year.

EPA fines biomass power plants $830,000

SAN FRANCISCO -- Two California biomass power plants have been fined more than a combined $830,000 for violating the Clean Air Act. The action has implications for lumber processors and the price of raw materials used in both power and wood panel manufacturing.

JCPenney among winners of EPA’s National Building Competition to Save Energy

LOS ANGELES – The JCPenney Store located at 2200 N. Tustin, Orange, Calif., is among the top three winners of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National Building Competition. The competition, launched on April 27, 2010, challenged teams from 14 buildings across the country to measure their building’s energy use and reduce waste with help from the Energy Star program.
