Lumber tariffs don’t draw protests of steel and aluminum

Last week, within hours after Trump announced the 25 percent tariff on steel and 10 percent on aluminum, many industries rose up in protest, said Gene Wengert, the Wood Dr. “Auto manufacturing indicated that this tariff would raise prices, affect sales and cause large (maybe 200,000) unemployment,” he said. “These industries responded within hours of Trump’s action. The stock market lost around 2 percent.”

Softwood lumber demand pushes prices higher

SEATTLE -- Increased demand for softwood lumber worldwide has pushed lumber prices higher, especially in the United States and China during the first half of 2017, according to the Wood Resource Quarterly, published by Wood Resources International LLC.

Lumber Supplier Canfor Loans $30 Million to Conifex

VANCOUVER, BC - Canfor and Conifex say an investment agreement between the two lumber producers for $30 million has been completed. The loan by Canfor (TSX:CFP) to Conifex Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Conifex Timber (TSX:CFF) is for five years, with the proceeds to be used for general corporate purposes.

Suwannee Lumber Names Langdale New CEO

CROSS CITY, FL - Softwood lumber producer Suwannee Lumber Co. LLC  has named James H. Langdale its new CEO. Langdale succeeds Frank “Bump” Faircloth, who will become chairman of Suwannee’s Board of Directors.Langdale has more than 23 years of experience in the forest products industry, most recently at Pannon Enterprises LLC, a consulting firm he headed. Faircloth, who  served as CEO of Suwannee since 1992, oversaw the company's growth from $5 million in revenue in 1992 to over $100 million in revenue in 2014.
