Ethan Allen expands U.S. furniture manufacturing

Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. has expanded its upholstery production in Maiden, North Carolina, with the conversion of a 173,000-square-foot former distribution facility located on its manufacturing campus to an upholstery plant. The residential furniture giant said the new plant will support the existing two upholstery facilities and also house a new R&D facility.

Residential furniture orders resumed gains in October 2015

Residential furniture orders saw slight gains in October, boding well for the industry which saw its 17-month string of year-over-year growth come to a halt in September. The latest survey of residential furniture manufacturers and distributors by High Point accounting and consulting firm Smith Leonard saw October new orders increase 1 percent over 2014 figures.

Large Wood Machinery Auction at A.P. Industries Furniture Plant

A trove of hardwood, plywood, wood components and bedroom furniture-in-progress along with dozens of large woodworking machines - seven machining centers alone - will be auctioned at the now-defunct A.P. Industries, whose Quebec plant closed in 2013. Bidding takes place December 15 on location at Laurier-Station, QC, near Quebec City.

Residential Furniture Orders Flatten Out

New orders for residential furniture were flat in September, breaking a 17-month string of growth for year-over-year orders, though shipments and backlogs both rose 3 percent, according to the latest survey of residential furniture manufacturers and distributors by analysts Smith Leonard.

Nautilus Table: 4,000 Strips of Sycamore Veneer

The request that resulted in the sycamore veneer Nautilus table was very open, says furniture designer and builder, Marc Fish. The client wanted "a large statement piece, with maybe a hint of the sea - its location being a large loft style apartment overlooking the English Channel." Fish is one of the wood world's eminent makers and designers, working from his Robinson House Studio on Newhaven, in England.

United Furniture Expands North Carolina Operations

United Furniture Industries said it will use a former Linwood Furniture plant in North Carolina for distribution of its imported residential furniture products. The estimated 400,000-square-foot facility will be used for storage and distribution of bedroom and casual dining room furniture kits from Malaysia and Vietnam, to be sold under the Simmons brand.
