A large share of EU research and innovation funding will go to Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) between industry and the European Commission in the future. This notably concerns the budget of the EU’s Horizon 2020 program, which succeeds the 7th framework program for research. Brussels’ hopes for bioeconomy are placed in the “PPP in biobased industries” which the EU Commissioner for Research must determine during the first half of 2013. Climate, environment and energy policy all play a major part in this multidisciplinary theme.

TAPPI announces the Board of Directors election results. Michael Exner, (RockTenn), Steven J. Shifman (Michelman, Inc.) and E. Clayton Teague (National Nanotechnology Coordination Office – Retired) were elected to begin their three year terms in March 2012.

The wood and paper products firm will acquire the company for $32 per share.
